It was terrible to wake up at 4.30 this morning knowing that we couldn’t have our buffet breakfast, but we were on our small, rickety boat for 5.30 am and making our way to the floating markets. As we were travelling on the river, we didn’t realise it would be choppy, so we got absolutely soaked in disease-ridden water! I was absolutely freezing and wrapped up and all Olly could do was complain; “I can’t believe I’m missing my breakfast for this stupid boat”, “why did we pay to get up so early” etc. etc. It didn’t help when a huge wave came and soaked him to the bone – it took all my willpower not to laugh as I didn’t want to irritate him anymore.
After 40 minutes, we made it. The boat driver didn’t speak a word of English so we got by by saying yes to everything and smiling.
We then sailed to a rice noodle factory and it was very insightful to see how noodles are made out of a milky paste, that’s turned into a pancake and shredded – we were fascinated!
We then went down some lovely canals, although Olly was counting down the minutes until dinner time.
Again, we went to the same cafe as yesterday and I had another coconut ice cream! Ol actually liked his lunch- spaghetti bolognaise which was a surprise.
I fell asleep for 3 hours after lunch but Ol did some laps of the pool and sunbathed. For tea, we had some more pizzas – and they made it onto Olly’s top 10 pizza list, so they must’ve been good…
We’ve booked cinema tickets for tomorrow night to see Suicide Squad (in English) for less than £2 each! Of course, we stopped for a frozen yoghurt in the mall as it was on the way. I’m sure we will be up early again tomorrow as we are too excited for breakfast to sleep.
Al and Ol
P.s. We can’t believe it’s our last day in Can Tho tomorrow!
